Rajab is here, marking the beginning of a sacred season of preparation. With just two months until Ramadan, the journey to reconnect, renew, and grow begins now.

As Imam Abu Bakr al-Warraq al-Balkhi (RA), the uncle of Imam Tirmidhi (RA), beautifully reminded us:

“The month of Rajab is the month of planting (your seeds), Sha‘ban is the month of irrigating (them), and Ramadan is the month of harvesting the crop.”

Rajab is a gift—an opportunity to lay the foundation for what we hope to achieve by the time Ramadan arrives. And what greater harvest could there be than deepening our relationship with the Quran?

Why Start in Rajab?

The Quran is not just a book to read; it’s a source of life, guidance, and transformation. Yet, meaningful connection takes intention and effort. Rajab is the perfect time to begin:

Planting Seeds: Set clear, personal goals for your Quran journey. What do you want your connection with the Quran to look like?

Irrigating Them in Sha’ban: As Sha’ban approaches, nurture those goals by creating habits that support them—consistency in recitation, dedicating time to reflection, or learning tajweed.

Reaping the Rewards in Ramadan: By Ramadan, your foundation will be solid, allowing you to focus on harvesting the fruits of your efforts: deeper understanding, heartfelt recitation, and perhaps even memorization or stronger fluency.

Start Simple, but Start Now

Take a moment to reflect:

1. Where is your relationship with the Quran today?

2. What small, realistic steps can you take this month to strengthen it?

This is your chance to plant the seeds of fluency, memorization, or understanding. Whether that means dedicating 5 minutes daily to recitation, enrolling in a Quran course, or simply revisiting the meanings of your favorite surahs—what matters is taking the first step.

Make It Personal

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Your Quran goals should reflect your personal aspirations and circumstances. Be real with yourself and with Allah. Even the smallest effort, done sincerely, can yield unimaginable rewards.

What Can You Do Before Ramadan?

1. Choose one achievable Quran goal for Rajab.

2. Break it into small, daily actions.

3. Ask Allah for His help and blessing.

By planting now, nurturing in Sha’ban, and dedicating yourself in Ramadan, imagine the transformation you’ll feel in just a few months.

Let Rajab be the month where you begin.
